Breakfast is the most vital meal of the day, especially for kids. In her latest Instagram post, Pooja Makhija, celebrity nutritionist, talks about it.

The importance of consuming a balanced diet cannot be emphasized enough. As per a research published by the World Health Organization (WHO), a healthy diet helps protect against malnutrition in all its forms, as well as non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer.

Social media as a platform is used by many influencers, to share insights and tips on nutrition. Recently, celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija, took to Instagram, to share a video post on the importance of feeding right, right from the start. Her post focused on the importance of a nutritious diet for kids, especially when it comes to breakfast, and how skipping it will do more harm than good.

Here’s why breakfast is important

In her video, Pooja, while conversing with her daughter, conveyed that skipping breakfast could make you inattentive, grumpy, and lose focus. With regards to weight loss, she mentioned that skipping breakfast could lead to an increase in fat storage and slow down fat burning. Hence, she advised her daughter, in the video, to not fast!

As per a research study published by ‘International Journal of Gastronomy and Food Science’, failure to eat something at the start of the day, can have serious health consequences for those concerned. These concerns range from heart ailments, diabetes, and stress.

Pooja captioned her post, by stating that, “it’s ‘National Nutrition Week’, and the theme this year is ‘feeding right from the start’ emphasizing the importance of child nutrition and how kids can benefit from a nourishing diet and healthy lifestyle.”

In her caption, she laid down some healthy breakfast choices, that her kids enjoy:

1. Dal Dosa with coconut chutney (savoury pancakes)

This delicious option provides the right dose of carbohydrates and protein. It gives that boost of energy, you require, right in the morning.

2. Eggs: French toast, boiled egg sandwich, omelette sandwich, eggs

Eggs are wondrous, providing protein, 13 essential vitamins and minerals, as well as omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Eggs are versatile in its usage, and a staple breakfast option.

3. Pancakes with peanut/almond butter

This is another use case, for incorporating eggs in the breakfast. Peanut and almond butter will not just enhance the taste, but also help consume protein, vitamins, and fibre.

4. Dal potato paratha

Another classic combination, balancing out carbohydrates with proteins. Consume it hot, with a cup of tea!

5. Milk and seed nuts granola

Granola is a great way to incorporate vital nutrients, such as protein, calcium, and vitamins, into your diet. This breakfast option will help increase energy levels and make you feel full for long durations.

6. Almond butter toast with banana

This combination will help with weight management, and aid digestion. The rich nutritional profile, full of antioxidants, minerals, and protein, will revitalize you!

7. Regular idli sambhar or poha or upma

These are fibre, protein, and carbohydrate-rich options, bound to take care of your health, and taste buds.
