Diwali parties, cleaning, home decoration, gift packing, shopping and cooking… Woah, you’ve been doing it all! You deserve to relax a bit with these therapies.
After the preparations and celebrations of Diwali, the post-festival fatigue is real, isn’t it? For most people, the days after Diwali are usually consumed by rest and unwinding. And while you’re still under a Diwali hangover, it’s time to consider post-festival detox or self care with soothing therapies.
During the festive time, if there’s something that goes for a toss, that is your body, especially your skin and hair. Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist and dermato-surgeon, The Aesthetic Clinics, tells HealthShots, “Both skin and hair are one of the most sensitive parts of our body and even though you don’t know they are crying for help. Burdened by make-up, pollution from crackers, and late night parties, the skin and hair need some extra pampering post Diwali to combat the after effects of Diwali.”
So if you find yourself getting carried away in the hustle and bustle of this festive season, it’s time you try unwinding.
Here zre some post-Diwali therapies suggested by Dr. Kapoor:
1. Opt for a clean up
The first thing to do is to call up your salon and book for a face clean up. Cleaning up will help regain the natural health of the skin. It will remove the dull and dead skin and prevent pimples and dry skin, apart from removing the harmful effects of pollution and smoke.
2. Deep facials
“Facials are pure luxury for the skin. There are a wide variety of treatment options available for you to choose from. You can opt for deep cleansing, or a glow or a vitamin C treatment, or simple skin polishing. A facial will clean out the pores, exfoliate the skin, and give you a natural glow,” says Dr Kapoor.
3. Body massages
This is a great way to say goodbye to the little aches and sores. Dr Kapoor suggests, “Opt for lymphatic drainage massage. This will reduce puffiness, dark circles, and skin irritation.” Lymphatic massages also keep the acne and aches away. You will end up with a firm and rested skin that is radiant from within.
4. Go for head massage and deep conditioning
You might not be able to see it, but your tresses need just as much care as the skin. Call your hairdresser and set up an appointment for head massage, hair spa, and deep conditioning. They will restore the pH balance, relax the scalp, and give your hair a chance to breathe. A good spa will treat your hair with nourishment and remove the traces of pollutants and dirt.

5. Manicure and pedicure
“Your hands have been busy making sweets, cooking and eating and your feet have worked hard in cleaning, dancing, decorating the house, etc. Post Diwali, give them a rest by opting for a good manicure and pedicure. This will also activate the pressure points of the body and help drain out the toxins,” says Dr Kapoor.

Antioxidant shots can revive your energy and drain toxins as well as rejuvenate the skin.
A simple microdermabrasion (skin polishing), exfoliating peel, or laser rejuvenation can bring back the tired and dull skin to life. These can be discussed with your dermatologist, says Dr Kapoor.
If you don’t have the time to go to the salon, you can opt for at-home salon services at your convenience. Apart from these, drink lots of water, eat a good meal, and stay away from makeup for a few days.
